Animal Encounters at Mount Rainier Nature Center is a one-hour, hands-on session with the center's resident animal ambassadors, open to ages two and up. Naturalists use the animals to show how different species survive in the wild, why their habitats matter and how people can help protect them. Each date has its own theme: Saturday, October 24 is a Bird Migration Walk and Saturday, November 28 focuses on fall mammal behavior. Sessions run from 11 a.m. to noon. The fee is $4 for Prince George's County residents and $6 for non-residents. Every participant must be registered through ParksDirect, and the program can be cancelled if too few people sign up, so register early. The nature center is at 4701 31st Place in Mount Rainier; call 301-927-2163 with questions.
