Camping 101 is a 90-minute beginner class at Potomac Overlook Regional Park for families who have never camped or want to pick up new tricks. A NOVA Parks naturalist shows participants how to pitch a tent, tie a few handy knots and build a campfire, and the session ends with s'mores. The program is $12 per participant for ages 8 and up, and anyone over 8, including adults, counts as a participant; younger children must come with an adult. Everyone must preregister, registration closes the day before, and the group meets at the nature center.
