About this adventure
Elgin Public Library marks Día de los Muertos with an afternoon of crafts and music for the whole family. Children and grown-ups can decorate sugar skulls and felt skulls and make a guirnalda de cempasúchil, the marigold paper-flower garland used on ofrendas, while the Friends of the Library run a book giveaway. The community singing group Elgin Sings performs traditional Hispanic songs, celebrating culture, remembrance and community, and the library's children's-program page adds face painting with Ms. Poppy. The library bills it as fun for everyone, so it suits toddlers through teens and their families, who can come for a craft or two or stay for the music.
