The 11th annual SoWa Christmas Market fills the historic SoWa Power Station in the South End with more than 100 New England makers, artists, designers and specialty food vendors for five weeks before Christmas. It is first of all an indoor holiday shopping market, with handcrafted jewelry, art, gourmet treats and gifts, and a vendor section labeled for children; it suits families who want to browse, snack and soak up the decorations together rather than children looking for organized activities. The organizers say the market is stroller- and kid-friendly, and children 12 and under get in free. Live music is part of the season, including weekend piano sets. Weekend daytime hours (from 10 am Saturday and Sunday) are the easiest with small children; weekday hours start at 4 pm. Re-entry is not allowed because of fire-code capacity limits, and only service animals are permitted. Cash is preferred but cards and Apple Pay are accepted. On-site parking costs $10 cash at nearby Harrison Avenue and Albany Street lots.
