Bilingual (Spanish and English) hands-on archaeology workshops for teens ages 13 to 18 at Harvard's Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology, led by Harvard anthropology graduate students. Teens practise real archaeological methods and handle artifacts. On November 14, 'Making Paleolithic Cave Art' with PhD student Marlena Billings explores how ancient artists decorated cave walls about 30,000 years ago, with experiments using different tools, surfaces and light and a look at how archaeologists study art under the microscope. On December 12, 'Animal Stories from the Past' with Jack Bishop examines real animal bones to learn about ancient diets, environments and human-animal relationships. Sessions run 1 to 3:30pm and cost $10 each, including free admission to the museums right after the workshop, plus a free return pass. Teens can sign up for one or more sessions; advance registration is required and spaces are limited. Accessible by public transportation.
