McDowell Nature Center celebrates National Bison Day with a drop-in afternoon about the American bison, the United States' national mammal. Families can stop by any time between 1 and 4 p.m. to learn about bison and explore hands-on displays with the center's naturalists. No pre-registration is needed. It is not a drop-off program: a parent must attend with each child, which makes it an easy, flexible stop for families with children of any age, and it pairs well with a walk on the preserve's trails along Lake Wylie.
