The Friends of President Polk's Birthplace hold their second annual Polkfest fundraiser at the James K. Polk State Historic Site in Pineville. The day brings games, special presentations, living-history demonstrations, arts and crafts and a silent auction, with proceeds funding the site's public programs. A separate plein-air painting event ($25 registration) runs the same hours for artists. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. A good way to introduce elementary-age kids to 1800s life on the farm where the 11th president was born.
