About this adventure
Chapin Forest Reservation in Kirtland is known for its Sharon Conglomerate ledges, rock outcroppings formed about 300 million years ago, and nearly six miles of trails under beech, maple, oak, tulip and hemlock trees. The Lucky Stone Loop Trail leads to one of Lake County's best overlooks, where Lake Erie and the Cleveland skyline show on a clear day, and kids can spot the blue blazes of the statewide Buckeye Trail. Quarry Pond marks an 1800s sandstone quarry whose stone went into local foundations including the Kirtland Temple. In winter the park lists sledding, snowshoeing and the Pine Lodge Cross-Country Ski Center.
