The City of Westland runs public open skate sessions at the Mike Modano Ice Arena on Wildwood. Through the fall and winter, sessions are listed on Friday evenings from 8:00 to 9:20 p.m. and Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 2:50 p.m. Rental skates and skating walkers (helpful for beginners and young children) are available. Resident admission is $7 for kids, $8 for adults and $5 for seniors 65+; non-residents pay $8 for kids and $9 for adults, and skate rental is $4. The city has cancelled several dates for arena events: November 6 and 8, December 4 and 6, December 25, January 1, January 15 and 17, and February 12 and 14. Check the city calendar before you go. The Sunday afternoon slot is the more family-friendly choice for younger skaters.
