About this adventure
Novi Ice Arena, run by Suburban Sports Group, has two NHL-size ice sheets, heated viewing areas, two cafés and skate rental, and it opens its ice to the public through the week. Public skates cost $13 admission and skate rental is $5 at every session; a 10-visit punch pass is $130 with one session free. Cheaper weekday noon skates are $6, which suits parents with preschoolers or homeschool families. For older kids who play hockey, Sticks & Pucks sessions ($20) are open to all ages but require full equipment: helmet, skates, gloves, stick and full leg coverage. Public sessions are recreational only, with no jumps, spins, hockey drills or private lessons on the ice, and helmets are recommended for all skaters. Sessions are first come, first served and change with ice availability, so check the online calendar or call the arena before driving over. Children who want to learn properly can join the arena's Learn to Skate classes.
