The Houston Arboretum's free monthly family scavenger hunt takes 'Animal Homes' as its December theme: with no central heating outdoors, where do animals go when they get cold? To their homes: burrows, leaves, nests and more. Families stop at the Nature Center to pick up the self-guided hunt and then head out on the trails to find the different types of animal homes and who lives in what, sharpening their observation skills along the way. The hunt runs from 2 to 4 p.m.; it is open to all ages, minors must be accompanied by an adult, and donations are appreciated. Closed-toe shoes are recommended; bring water and bug spray. Admission to the Arboretum grounds is free; parking is $6.50 (free on Thursdays, the second Sunday of each month, and for members).
