Galveston Island State Park runs a hands-on, beginner-friendly Fishing Skills Clinic on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at the beach day-use area. Participants rotate through three stations that build confidence and teach core fishing skills, from gearing up safely to practicing a cast, with staff guiding each step; it is aimed at anyone who has never fished and is a good fit for families with school-age children. Bring sunscreen, bug spray, a water bottle, a folding chair if you have one, and weather-appropriate clothes and comfortable shoes. Park entry is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under (free with a State Parks Pass). The program can be cancelled for weather.
