The Children's Museum Guild's 62nd annual Haunted House fundraiser turns a corner of the museum into Fright Academy, a school for monsters and villains in training with a haunted library, a ghastly cafeteria, spider-web hallways and a not-so-honorable Hall of Fame. Families choose between two kinds of visits. Uranus Fudge Factory Friendly Hours (daytime, plus Wednesday early evenings) are recommended for kids who scare easily, with brighter lights, upbeat music, treats and friendly greeters. Frightening Hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings bring dimmed lights, scary music, jump scares and masked haunters for kids who dare to be scared; there are no Frightening Hours on Halloween. Theme days in the final week include Math Day on Oct. 27 with math games and a prize wheel and a Bike Safety Day helmet giveaway on Oct. 28. The Haunted House ticket is separate from, and does not include, museum admission; the museum publishes a room-by-room walkthrough online so parents can preview it with nervous children.
