About this adventure

A local history museum in Fernandina Beach, housed in the 1938 former Nassau County Jail, that tells 4,000 years of life on Amelia Island: the Timucua people, Spanish and French explorers, pirates, the Civil War (when Fort Clinch was a Union base and the town a haven for free Black families), timber, shrimping and the Victorian 'Golden Age'. Children can explore The Margery, an interactive ship where they learn about pirates, flags, knots, cargo, clothing and sailing traditions, and peek into a recreated jail cell. Docent-led tours run twice a day Monday to Saturday and once on Sunday, and admission is free on Friday evenings from 4 to 6 p.m.
