Belton's holiday kickoff fills Main Street on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. A Holiday Light Parade steps off at 5 p.m., and afterward, around 6 p.m., Mayor Larkey lights the Belton Christmas tree at the corner of Main and Chestnut streets in Peace Park, outside the fire station. Before and after the lighting children can visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, and weather permitting the Belton Missouri Historical Railroad runs trains. Streets close from 4 p.m. and reopen around 7 p.m. The event supports the Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund and Operation Santa, which provide food and toys to Belton families in need.
