About this adventure
Deering Estate's education and interpretive staff run two three-day nature camp sessions over winter break, held at the estate's Visitor Center in Palmetto Bay. Session I (December 21–23) is themed "Outdoor Classroom" and explores South Florida's ecosystems, plants and wildlife and how living things interact with their environment. Session II (December 28–30) is "Beyond the Forest," taking campers beyond familiar trails to explore different landscapes and the stories of local wildlife. Camp is for ages 6 to 14 and runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with pickup by 5 p.m. at the Visitor Center. Campers bring lunch and snacks, a refillable water bottle, closed-toe shoes, a change of clothes, sunblock, bug spray, a hat and sunglasses. Registration is online only through Miami-Dade County Park Link; parents can sign up by the day. A one-day Mini Camp is also scheduled for Friday, December 18, 2026.
