About this adventure
The UWM Manfred Olson Planetarium opens its fifth-floor rooftop Skydeck on the Physics Building for free public telescope sessions. Planetarium staff aim the telescopes at whatever the evening sky offers, typically the Moon, planets and bright star clusters, and visitors line up to look through each eyepiece and ask questions. Each session runs about an hour, which suits school-age children and teens with an interest in space, and younger kids who can manage a short evening outing. Dress warmly: the deck is outdoors in November and December. If it is cloudy, rainy, snowing or below 0°F, the session moves indoors to an indoor stargazing show in the planetarium (Physics Building Room 139) instead. The rooftop is reached by elevator to the third floor and then two flights of stairs, so the Skydeck is not wheelchair accessible. There is no free parking on campus; the Cunningham Lot north of the building is pay parking.
