About this adventure
Hicks Nurseries in Westbury turns its garden center into Long Island's largest Christmas store each season, and its kids' traditions are all free. Santa sits for pictures every day from November 27 to December 23 — children may sit on his lap or next to him, and families bring their own camera, so there is no photo package to buy. From November 14 to December 31 an animated walk-through Christmas story in the Christmas Gallery shows Santa, his elves and friends getting ready for the big day (bring a non-perishable food donation for Long Island Cares to drop at the exit). North Pole mailboxes take letters to Santa from November 14 to December 19, and Santa answers each one if a self-addressed stamped envelope is enclosed. A live brass band plays holiday songs on the Friday after Thanksgiving and on weekends through December 13. It is an easy, no-ticket outing for toddlers and preschoolers that fits around errands.
