Winterthur starts its Yuletide season with a one-day Holiday Market on Saturday, November 21. More than 50 local artisans sell handmade crafts, textiles, ceramics, glass, woodwork and holiday decor around the estate, with live music at the Greenhouse Area and West Gallery Circle and food and drink at several stops. Santa strolls through the market greeting visitors, an ice sculptor carves a piece live from 10 am to 1 pm, and guests can roast marshmallows by the firepits. The ticket also covers the garden, the galleries and the self-guided Yuletide house tour, which is first come, first served. Every guest, members included, must book either the morning session (10 am to 1 pm) or the afternoon session (2 to 5 pm). Tickets are $33 for adults, $31 for seniors and students, $12 for children 3 to 12 and free for infants under 2. Shuttles run between the Visitor Center, Greenhouse Area and Galleries, and the event goes ahead in rain or snow. Wine tastings, chocolate tastings and a wreath workshop are paid add-ons.
