Nature Fest PHX is a free community festival celebrating urban wildlife along the Salt River at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area. Families learn about the river's ecosystem, meet live wildlife, try art projects, join guided walks and play games for prizes, with dozens of local environmental non-profits hosting booths (about 45 last year, with over 1,000 visitors). Early risers can join a community river clean-up from 8 to 9 a.m. before the festival opens. Wear closed-toe shoes and sun protection; the activities are outdoors along the riverbank.
