Ranger Nikki leads an easy 2-mile out-and-back night walk at San Tan Mountain Regional Park to search for bark, striped-tail and giant hairy scorpions, plus other nocturnal critters such as bats, owls, tarantulas, geckos, centipedes and stink bugs, under an almost-full moon. Bring a UV blacklight to make scorpions fluoresce, a regular flashlight, closed-toe shoes and plenty of water; no pets. Restrooms and water are at the Nature Center. Meet at the Main Trailhead picnic table. The entry station will be closed, so bring $10 exact cash for the self-pay station or display an annual pass. Limit 30; register by calling the San Tan Nature Center with names and party size (registration closes Oct 15, so call to check for waitlist space).
