Founded in 1928, Hoyt Arboretum covers 190 ridge-top acres with 12 miles of trails (a mix of paved, packed dirt and gravel) just minutes from downtown Portland, and is home to 2,300 species of trees and shrubs from six continents. Grounds are open 5 a.m.-10 p.m. daily; the Visitor Center (free trail map, suggested walks) is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. Operated through a partnership between Portland Parks & Recreation and Hoyt Arboretum Friends.
