About this adventure
The seat of North Carolina's government since June 1840; the building once held the governor's office, the Supreme Court and the General Assembly chambers. Families can tour on their own any time the building is open to learn about state government, citizenship and the history of the state and of Raleigh, or join a free public guided tour on Saturdays at 11 am, 1 pm or 3 pm with no reservation needed. Groups of 10 or more must book at least two weeks ahead through Capital Area Visitor Services. The site's Digital Resources page has extra learning materials.
