About this adventure

Snow Summit's 62nd annual New Year's Eve party brings families to the base of the mountain on December 31, 2026, for one of Big Bear's longest-running holiday traditions. More than 200 skiers and snowboarders carry torches down the slope in the dark, drawing a moving line of light across the hill before a (snow)ball drop. Festivities start around 6 p.m., and the indie-rock band Winyah plays a live set in the base area from 8 to 9 p.m. Admission to the parade viewing area is free and open to the public, with no advance registration or waivers needed; families simply show up on the night. Food from the grill, grab-and-go items and drinks are sold at the resort's dining venues through the evening. The evening ends at 10 p.m., well before midnight, which suits younger children. Families who want to ski first can buy lift tickets for the day, as the slopes open at 8:30 a.m.; children 4 and under ski free with a ticket redeemed at the window.
