The Thousand Palms Oasis Preserve, owned and managed by the nonprofit Center for Natural Lands Management, is the heart of the Coachella Valley Preserve system in Thousand Palms. It contains the Thousand Palms and McCallum oases, with sandy and rocky trails. Per the preserve's public-access notice (updated August 6, 2026), from May 1 to Oct. 31 the oasis is open Saturdays and Sundays 7 a.m.-3 p.m., and there is no public access outside posted hours; the Pushawalla and Willis Palms trails are open every day. There is currently no admission fee (donations appreciated). The Visitors' Center is permanently closed; bathrooms are open during preserve hours. There is no onsite public parking (street parking only, observing No Parking signs). Dogs and other pets are not allowed (service dogs welcome). Accessibility is limited: gates are narrow and the oasis trail is unpaved and sloped.
