Sacramento author Dr. JaNay Brown-Wood visits the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library in south Sacramento on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. to read from her new picture book, Acacia: A Rapunzel Tale, a modern retelling of the classic fairytale. After the reading, children make their own fairytale self-portrait, and the library promises a special princess appearance. Kids are welcome to come in costume. Free copies of the book are handed out while supplies last, so arriving on time is the best way to take one home. The library lists the program for toddlers, preschoolers and school-age kids, and it is free with no registration listed. The event is in the branch meeting room; the library is near 24th Street and 68th Avenue, across the street from 24th Street Bypass Park.
