About this adventure

On the first Sunday of each month the Briscoe Western Art Museum downtown runs "Full STEAM Ahead," a hands-on family education program that ties science, technology, engineering, art and math to the museum's collection of Western art and artifacts. Monthly themes range across transportation, weather, animals, astronomy and engineering in the American West, and families work through the activities and mini-workshops together from 1 to 3 p.m. The program coincides with Locals Day, when admission is free for Bexar County residents (registration through the museum's link), and the same day offers "Scout the Briscoe," a free scavenger hunt through the 14 galleries and 1.4-acre campus that earns a museum-store discount. Children 12 and under are always admitted free. A relaxed way to introduce school-age kids to an art museum, one block off the River Walk.
