Each year the downtown River Walk switches on its holiday lights the day after Thanksgiving, during the Ford Holiday River Parade lighting ceremony at Arneson River Theatre (Friday, November 27, 2026), and they shine every night through early January. Strings of lights are draped across the tall bald cypress trees along the downtown portion of the river, and the organizer puts the display at 200,000 lights. Seeing them is free: the River Walk is a public park open 24 hours a day, every day, so families can stroll the river-level paths after dinner at their own pace, with strollers on the wide walkways. Boat caroling and other holiday events take place during the same weeks.
