About this adventure

Nature Collective volunteers Elizabeth Venrick and Mark Jenne lead a long morning wildlife walk at San Elijo Lagoon timed for the arrival of winter birds. Participants look for shorebirds, ducks, songbirds and birds of prey: White-crowned Sparrows working the trail edges for seeds, Yellow-rumped Warblers calling from the foliage and, with luck, a Northern Harrier hunting low over the marsh; wet days can also bring out unusual mushrooms. The tour is for ages 15 and up, so it suits teens interested in birding or biology along with their parents. It is free (donations welcome) but registration is required, and the exact meet-up spot is emailed to registered participants. The tour runs weather permitting and, as the organizer notes, wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. Bring binoculars, water and layers.
