Oakland Zoo in Knowland Park covers 100 acres of animal habitats including the California Trail, reached by a gondola that is included with admission, plus a children's zoo with petting yard, a train and rides. Advance timed ticket reservations are required for general admission (members do not need reservations). Current hours: admission 9:30am–2:00pm with the Zoo closing at 4:00pm; Skyride on weekends and holidays only 10:30am–3:00pm. General admission uses Plan-Ahead Pricing, so ticket prices vary daily and are not printed as fixed amounts; children under 2 are free, child tickets are 15% off an adult ticket and senior tickets 10% off. Parking is $15 per vehicle in advance or $20 at entry. The Bay to Zoo Tickets program offers low-income Bay Area residents with EBT or WIC cards two adult tickets at $5, two senior tickets at $3, four child (2-14) tickets at $3 and a free parking pass (the Zoo withdrew from Museums for All on Feb 4, 2025). Closures in the window: gondola and California Trail closed October 27-28 for maintenance; closed November 26, 2026; early close December 24 (last entry 12:30pm, closes 2:00pm); closed December 25, 2026.
