A half-mile color hunt for young explorers on Coyote Hills' Quail Trail. Each child draws a random paint-color sample from a bag and then searches the plants, rocks, sky, water and animals along the trail for that exact shade. It is a gentle way to slow children down and get them noticing small details in nature, and it works on a cool December morning as well as in spring. The walk is designed for ages 5 to 12 with a parent participating, starts from the Visitor Center, and is a free drop-in program with no registration. Wear shoes suited to a short dirt trail; parking fees apply where charged.
