About this adventure

Happy Hollow is San José's city-run park and zoo in Kelley Park, scaled for young children and accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums for more than 25 years. Families can see the zoo's animals, then ride the family-friendly rides: the iconic Danny the Dragon train has carried visitors since 1961, and the Keep-Around Carousel is a favorite photo spot. The park has one of the oldest and best-attended puppet theaters in California, and the Crooked Meadow stage hosts seasonal shows; costumed characters such as Danny the Dragon, Captain Conservation and Petal the Fairy turn up for occasional meet-and-greets. Part of every ticket goes to Quarters for Conservation, which funds wildlife research and conservation. The park does not hand out printed maps; download the PDF map before you go. Parking is $10 a day at 748 Story Road or at the Leininger Center lot at 1300 Senter Road, and VTA buses 73 and 25 stop at the entrance.
