About this adventure

Hellyer is a 178-acre county park in south San José with Coyote Creek running through its tall trees and creek habitat. Its newer playground is the big draw for kids: a 30-foot-high play structure with an enclosed slide, bridges, swings and a cargo-net climbing course, a toddler area for sand play, climbing, sliding, swinging and making music, and a rock-formation splash pad with jets, waterfalls and sprinklers that runs April 1 to October 1. Families can also fish year-round at Cottonwood Lake, picnic at first-come family sites, and watch riders on the park's Olympic-size open-air banked velodrome. Kids with a phone or tablet can also play Agents of Discovery, a free 30–45 minute educational mission game on the paved paths that starts near the playground.
