About this adventure

The first Responders First 5K & 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk is a Halloween-morning race at Sand Hill Scout Reservation on Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville. The 5K starts at 8 a.m. and the one-mile family run/walk at 9 a.m.; walkers, first-timers and families pushing strollers are welcome, and everyone is encouraged to come in costume. After the races the festivities continue until 2 p.m. with a Halloween costume contest, music and entertainment, food trucks, bounce houses, local vendors, prizes and giveaways, and trick-or-treating for kids at the vendor tables. Awards go to the top three male and female finishers overall and to the top male and female finishers in each age group, starting with 9 and under. Proceeds benefit the Responders First Wellness Program, which supports veterans and first responders dealing with PTSD and other effects of the trauma and stress of their service; Hernando County Veteran Services is supporting the event. Registration is on RunSignup and closes Friday, October 30, at 11:59 a.m.; children 6 and under can be signed up for the family mile at no charge. The event goes ahead rain or shine, with no refunds.
