On Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 1 to 5 pm, the National Museum of the American Indian celebrates the past, present and future of North America's largest land mammal. Films in the Rasmuson Theater (1–2:45 pm) include Rebirth of the Range, about the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes reclaiming the National Bison Range in Montana, and hands-on activities in the Potomac Atrium explore the bison's role in restoring grassland ecosystems and its spiritual connection to Tribal nations. It is part of the Smithsonian's commemoration of the nation's 250th anniversary. Free; the films suit older children and teens, while atrium activities work for younger visitors.
