The National Museum of the American Indian on the National Mall celebrates Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 10 am to 5 pm, presenting it as a time to celebrate family and the cycle of life rather than to mourn. Throughout the day families can watch dance performances by Grupo los Tecuanes, make paper marigolds to place on a Catrina statue, cut papel picado with artist David Amorozo, learn how pan de muerto is made, and meet costumed Catrinas roaming the festival. Visitors may leave photos and mementos on the community ofrenda or write a loved one's name on a butterfly for the memorial arch. A 10:30 am story time in the imagiNATIONS Activity Center reads a Día de los Muertos picture book. Free; activities are on Level 1 (Potomac Atrium) and Level 3 (imagiNATIONS Activity Center).
