The day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27, 2026, the National Museum of the American Indian marks Native American Heritage Day from 11 am to 4 pm. Denmi Whiteman (Oglala Lakota and Southern Cheyenne) performs and explains Jingle Dress dancing in the Potomac Atrium at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm; at 1 pm curator Anya Montiel gives a closer look at the special installation Making a Statement, about how Native women combine traditional designs with military symbolism; and hands-on activities run through the day. Free. A good option for families visiting the Mall over the Thanksgiving holiday.
