From late November into early January, Hillwood decks Marjorie Merriweather Post's estate in Christmas trees inspired by its textile exhibition, Interwoven: A Tradition of Textiles. Each tree takes its cue from a piece in the show: a lace flounce becomes a baby's-breath tree in the entry hall, a French wall hanging inspires a peach-and-gold tree with bird ornaments in the drawing room, a 1930s evening gown shapes the dining room tree, and fruit embroidery inspires a tree of fruit and vegetable ornaments. A quilt-themed tree greets visitors in the visitor center, with a botanical tree in the conservatory for the first time. Outside, lit pines lead to the mansion. Children who like spotting details will enjoy matching trees to the objects that inspired them. Visits are included in Hillwood's suggested-donation admission; the museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
