Meet the Wheelwoman is a short character performance at the National Museum of American History in which visitors meet a cyclist pursuing life, liberty and happiness in the rapidly changing world of the 1890s. Through her, children and adults learn how the explosive popularity of the safety bicycle at the turn of the century gave women more personal mobility and independence and empowered them to advocate for change, from less restrictive clothing and improved infrastructure to woman suffrage. The 30-minute program runs on Fridays, October 23 and October 30, at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. on the museum's first floor, as part of the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation Object Project. It is free and wheelchair accessible, and the Smithsonian lists it under Kids & Families.
