December's session of Lockhart State Park's outdoor homeschool classes has children make ink from oak galls, learn a bit of the history behind it, and then draft their own document with a feather quill pen. The program is for homeschool students in grades 1–5 (ages 6–12) and runs one hour, offered at several times in the first full week of December so families can pick one: Tuesday Dec. 8 at 10 a.m., Wednesday Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m., or Thursday Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. Oak gall ink stains, so children should wear old clothes and bring water. Each session is limited to 25 participants and registration is online only; the Tuesday session is already marked full. The class is free with paid park entry ($3 per adult, children 12 and under free). Meet in the park's picnic area.
