A one-hour beginners' class in fly fishing held in the picnic area of Lockhart State Park. The instructor starts with the fly rod and its rigging (knots, tippets and leaders) and then spends most of the hour on casting practice. All equipment is provided, though participants can bring their own. The park recommends the class for ages 14 and up, so it is a good fit for teens and their parents who want to try the sport together. No registration is required: dress for the weather, bring water and meet in the picnic area (from park headquarters, pass the pool and take the first right into the picnic parking lot). The class is free with paid park entry ($3 per adult, children 12 and under free).
