Havre de Grace marks Veterans Day with a late-morning parade through the old part of town on Wednesday, November 11. Marchers assemble at Hutchins Park by 10:45, and at 11 sharp the parade heads up Congress Avenue, turns right onto Washington Street and continues along St. John Street to the American Legion post, where a luncheon is laid on for veterans and their families; VFW Post 8126 also holds a potluck right after the parade. It is a short, hometown-style parade that is easy to watch from the sidewalk with children — a good way to talk with kids about what the day means and to wave to the veterans who march or ride. Groups that want to march should follow the assembly instructions on the listing.
