About this adventure

A 30-minute guided tour of the Old Manse in Concord built for families with children ages six and up. The 254-year-old house overlooks the North Bridge, where the opening fight of the Revolutionary War took place, and later sheltered writers and artists. On this version of the tour the guide shows how people lived in the house, points out Revolutionary-era artifacts, lets children try a piano that is more than 160 years old, and runs a scavenger hunt through the rooms. It falls on Halloween Saturday at noon, which makes it a short history outing before the evening's trick-or-treating. Register ahead because space is limited, check in at the bookstore 10–15 minutes early, and plan around the steep stairs (the house is not wheelchair accessible) and the lack of a public restroom on site; the nearest restrooms are at the National Park and the Concord Visitor Center.
