Winter Wonderlights is the Town of Matthews' holiday kickoff in Stumptown Park downtown. From 3:30 p.m. children can get glitter tattoos, make holiday crafts, play on inflatables and watch Curley the Clown twist balloons, and Santa appears for photos. Community groups perform on the stage (Charlotte Academy of Music, Crestdale Middle School Chorus, Charlotte Dance Alliance and the Metrolina Christian Academy Choir). The park lighting ceremony starts at about 5:30 p.m., and the tree and the whole park light up at about 6:30 p.m. Food and treat trucks are on site. New in 2026, the Matthews Area Chamber of Commerce runs a Winter Wonderlights Holiday Market in the Free Clinic lots and the rear of the park from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Pets and outside alcohol are not allowed at town special events.
