After Halloween, bring your jack-o'-lanterns, gourds and pumpkins to Frontier Park on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to noon and help the Arlington Heights Park District's EnviroGroup smash and pitch them into compostable material. Kids get to break pumpkins on purpose while learning why: pumpkins are about 90% water, which makes them bad for landfills but great for soil and gardens. It is a free event and a satisfying, hands-on way to wrap up the season outdoors; dress for mess.
