Upcoming dates: Sun, Nov 1 · Sun, Nov 8
On two Sunday afternoons in November, teachers from New Song Music Academy sit at Klyde Warren Park's green piano near the Lecture Hall and give free 15-minute mini piano lessons. The park describes the teachers as patient and the lessons as approachable for all ages, from people who have never touched a key to those dusting off old skills. In a few minutes participants learn some basics and play a real song, which makes this a low-pressure way for a curious child to try an instrument before committing to classes. No experience or sign-up is mentioned — just take a seat when the piano is free, and expect a short wait on busy afternoons. Sessions run from 1 to 3 pm on November 1 and November 8. Pair it with the nearby children's park or the reading room, and check the park's parking information before heading downtown.
