Fort Worth Opera's Family Series brings its commissioned 35-minute opera Frida Kahlo and the Bravest Girl in the World to the Fort Worth Zoo. Based on Laurence Anholt's picture book, it follows Mariana, a young girl in Mexico City who overcomes her fear of the famous painter Frida Kahlo, sits for her portrait and discovers courage and friendship. The show uses puppets, invites young audiences to take part, and is followed by a puppet photo experience. It was created for students in grades 4–8 but is billed as suitable for the whole family. Every ticket for the Zoo performance includes Zoo admission and an interactive animal encounter led by Zoo staff, so families can make a day of it. Tickets and a family package are sold through Fort Worth Opera.
