Howell's 42nd annual Fantasy of Lights, hosted by the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is the city's official holiday kick-off on the Friday after Thanksgiving. State Street becomes the Meijer Merry & Bright Holiday Lane from 3:00 PM with shopping, refreshments and live entertainment, a Letters to Santa writing station (3–7 PM), a visit with Santa and his reindeer, the Fantasy of Art Show at the Howell Opera House (3–9 PM) and live performances (4–7 PM). The Fantasy 5K steps off at 6:00 PM and the family run/walk at 6:05 PM (dogs not permitted). The lighted parade of floats, marching bands, first responders and Santa travels down Grand River Avenue at 7:00 PM. Grand River is closed with posted detours. The 2026 Grand Marshal is David Dugger.
