A weekly-style nature class for children from 18 months to 4 years and an adult companion. A Houston Arboretum naturalist reads a story, leads a simple nature or sensory activity, and then takes the group on a stroller-friendly hike along the Arboretum trails, with a new theme each session (ponds, bones, senses, leaves and similar). Sessions last 45 minutes and run twice on select Monday mornings, at 9:30 and 10:30; Spanish-language Tyke Hikes en español run on select Sundays at 11 a.m. No preregistration: sign-up happens in front of the Beautyberry Classroom, each session is capped at 20 children, and doors close 15 minutes after the start or when the session is full. Siblings outside the age range may come along but not participate. Dress children in close-toed shoes and play clothes ready for the weather. Nonmembers pay $7 per child at the door; Family Tree members and above are free. Admission to the Arboretum grounds is free; parking is $6.50 (free on Thursdays, the second Sunday of each month, and for members).
