The Houston Zoo marks Día de los Muertos over two days, Sunday November 1 (9 a.m.–9 p.m.) and Monday November 2 (9 a.m.–5 p.m.). Families walk the zoo among glowing decorations and photo spots. The centrepiece is a traditional ofrenda honoring animals that have died; visitors are invited to bring a photo of a beloved animal to place on the altar or take home again. A craft station lets children and adults draw or make artwork of a favorite animal to add to the altar, and La Catrina appears in person on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Seasonal food includes tamales from a food-truck pop-up and decorated sugar skull cookies. The celebration is included with general zoo admission and free for members, so plan it as part of a normal zoo day; daytime tickets are dated, and parking is in the Hermann Park lots outside the zoo.
